Terms of Service

The plain-English version of how to use this site.

Last updated: June 2026.

These terms apply to anyone who visits bobthecarguy.com. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't, please close the browser tab and we'll have no hard feelings.

Editorial content is opinion, not advice

Everything we publish is opinion, observation, or analysis from the perspective of the named author. Articles about used cars, market values, maintenance, insurance, or driving technique reflect personal experience and informed judgment — not professional advice. We are not your mechanic, your insurance broker, your buyer's agent, or your driving instructor. Do not make significant purchase, insurance, or modification decisions based solely on what you read here. Talk to a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.

Use of content

You may read, share, link to, quote (with attribution), and print our articles for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not republish entire articles, scrape the site for AI training datasets, repost our content on aggregator sites, or use our content commercially without prior written permission. We're reasonable about reuse requests — use the contact form and ask.

Acceptable use

When you use the site, you agree not to: (a) attempt to interfere with the site's operation or security; (b) attempt to access areas or data you aren't authorized to access; (c) run automated scrapers, crawlers, or bots in a way that materially impacts site performance; (d) submit forms or contact messages that are abusive, threatening, or contain unlawful content; (e) impersonate someone else when contacting us. We may suspend or block access without notice if we have reason to believe these terms are being violated.

No accounts and no user-generated content

The site does not have user accounts. We do not host comment sections, forums, profile pages, or any other space for visitor-created content. The only thing a visitor can submit is the contact form, and contact-form messages are received privately by us — they're not published on the site. If we ever add a comments system or any other user-submitted content feature, we'll update these terms first and tell you what changes.

Third-party links

Articles sometimes link to third-party sites: manufacturer pages, auction listings, photo libraries, parts catalogs, other publications. We have no control over the content, policies, or availability of third-party sites. A link does not constitute endorsement. If a linked site is acting in bad faith and you want us to remove the reference, use the contact form.

Images and credits

Photographs published on the site are either taken by the author, licensed from photo libraries (Unsplash, Wikimedia Commons, etc.), or used with the photographer's permission. Photographer credits appear under each image. If you believe an image on the site is yours and was used without permission or attribution, use the contact form with the subject line "Image attribution" and we will resolve it within 48 hours.

Intellectual property & DMCA

The articles, original photographs, design, and code published on bobthecarguy.com are our intellectual property unless attributed otherwise. The name "Bob the Car Guy," our brand mark, and our typography choices are not licensed for reuse without permission.

If you believe content on the site infringes a copyright you own, send a written notice to the contact form with: (1) identification of the copyrighted work, (2) the URL of the allegedly infringing content, (3) your contact information, (4) a good-faith statement that the use is not authorized, (5) a statement under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and you are authorized to act, and (6) your signature (electronic is fine). We will respond within 14 days and remove infringing content if the claim is valid.

No warranty

The site is provided "as is." We do our best to be accurate, but we make mistakes. We do not guarantee that the site will be available, error-free, or correct. If you spot something wrong, please tell us.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, damage, or inconvenience resulting from your use of the site or reliance on its content. This includes, but is not limited to, financial loss on a car purchase made after reading one of our buyer's guides, mechanical damage following our maintenance advice, or anything that happens on a track day after reading Lena's columns. You drive your own car at your own risk.

Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these terms, your misuse of the site, or your infringement of any third-party right while using the site. This is standard language. In practice, we have never invoked it and don't expect to.

Termination of access

We may restrict or terminate your ability to access the site at any time if we have a reasonable basis for believing you've violated these terms. We are not required to give notice. Termination of access does not affect any rights or obligations that survive by their nature (e.g., past-tense use of content under fair use rules).

Severability & entire agreement

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the rest stays in effect. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of the site. They supersede any prior agreements, communications, or representations.

Class action waiver

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree that any dispute will be resolved on an individual basis and not as part of a class action, collective action, or representative proceeding. This provision does not prevent you from participating in small-claims court actions or, where applicable law requires, in optional arbitration as an individual.

Changes

We may update these terms occasionally. Material changes will be noted on the page with an updated date. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the new terms.

Governing law

This site is published from California, and these terms are governed by California law. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Santa Cruz County, California, except where applicable consumer-protection law requires another forum.
